an hour of nothing

An hour of nothing quickly turned into a half hour of my mind racing, never a quiet moment. When I realize I'm thinking too much, I yell at my mind to focus, focus on nothing. And a moment later I think "I wonder if the laundry is still in the basement."

Any time I need to be alone I go into the bath tub. I like the soft, yellow lighting as the lightbulb tries to seep through the curtain, and the funny shadows created by the curtains. I like the nice fragrant smells, and the smooth plastic curved basin.

These words flow in and out of conversations, in and out of my consciousness, in and out all the time. They repeat over and over until it becomes a part of your thinking, a part of your life.

Eyeball Me

On September 12th, my performance group (Maegan, Lauren, James, and I) put together a piece based on exercises dealing with movement of the body and action. We all started at different points, moving around creating seemingly random movements, and then came together in the end around a chair. This performance was hard for me because I felt abused - Lauren was eyeballing me about the friggin apple, so close she became the air I was breathing. I know Lauren has issues with agoraphobia... so that couldn't have been easy - she always get the role of being smothered or the one doing the smothering which is funny to me. Anyways the point was to simulate being on the bus while you're eating and you feel like everyone is aware of your noshing. The word "nosh" is Yiddish by the way. But in a more broad sense it reminded me of real life in that during the performance you know people are watching you, reading you for signs that connect with meaning -trying to categorize what they are seeing. Also all four of us where doing very different actions with varied contexts. And often times in life, people come together if even for a brief moment to participate in the same situation. Whether it be in the train station at the admission rotating bar things, or in an elevator... sometimes you will find yourself with a group of individuals who just a second ago had nothing to do with you, and you'll never be in that exact combination of people again. Thats what this performance reminded me of.

The first glorious entry.

Hello to everyone. I've never been one to write in journals or diaries, but my mind is always running a mile a minute, so maybe this will help me organize my thoughts a little - and I'm all for trying something new. So here I am, in Chicago, in a very humid, warm apartment, sitting in my skivvies talking to the millions of anonymous voices and faces of "the internet". I am a photographer by trade so I know already most of my posts will be for the photographs. So, yes, here is the first glorious post. Enjoy!
